How Does the Exegenix Approach Compare to Other Conversion Methodologies?

Manual Conversion

When content is manually tagged or rekeyed it’s easy to introduce errors into the conversion process. Significant post-conversion review and editing will generally be required before you can use your XML. Manual conversion is also extremely resource intensive and can involve a lengthy turnaround time.

The Exegenix approach is accurate, fast, and enables quality control and scheduling to be kept in-house in a secure environment. It minimizes human resource requirements, enabling valuable expertise to be employed more effectively elsewhere.

“Scripted” Conversion

Scripting software relies on rigid conformance to formatting styles in the original word-processor document. However, human authors generally do not create documents using consistent styles and sequences of steps, and low-quality XML output can result.

Also, custom programming will likely be required for each type of document and each proprietary application used for document creation. Significant human involvement is therefore required in a “scripted” conversion process – in initial development and ongoing maintenance of the scripts, and in correcting errors in the output caused by inconsistencies in the input.

The Exegenix approach removes the dependency on consistently-applied formatting styles, because it interprets a document’s logical structure based on the appearance and position of its components in the same way a human reader does, and does not require programming expertise to develop and maintain configuration scripts.
